Kyrgyz imams attend seminars

JALAL-ABAD, Kyrgyzstan -- Imams in southern Kyrgyzstan recently attended a number of training sessions to boost their credentials, the Bishkek-based religious foundation Iyman said in a May 31 statement.

One seminar for 120 imams took place in Jalal-Abad city May 2-13. Another seminar took place in Jalal-Abad city May 14-24. The second workshop drew 114 imams from three provinces, including Talas in the north.

The four imams who failed the exam at the end of the second workshop will undergo retraining in the autumn, the Iyman Foundation said.

Topics of training included Koran interpretation and clerics' use of IT.
