Pakistan sentences ex-minister, 2 officials in Hajj corruption case

ISLAMABAD -- An Islamabad-based special court June 3 sentenced Hamid Saeed Kazmi, former federal minister for religious affairs, and two former officials in his ministry to lengthy prison terms for corruption, Dawn reported.

The three defendants were found guilty of corruption linked to the 2009 Hajj pilgrimage. Kazmi and Aftab Aslam drew 16-year sentences, while Rao Shakeel faces 40 years in prison.
