Kyrgyz schoolchildren discuss extremism and terrorism

By Asker Sultanov

BISHKEK -- Schoolchildren at Bishkek High School No. 12 June 8 discussed the threat of extremism among youth, the Bishkek-based NGO Yedinstvo (Unity) said in a statement. Security analysts led the discussion with the children, who asked various questions.

Bishkek college students participated in the event too. They told the schoolchildren about the essence of extremism and about extremist recruitment methods, including use of social media.

Such prevention events use the principle of "peer-to-peer" communication, in which schoolchildren hear from other young Kyrgyz -- college students -- about the extremist threat, Bishkek-based security analyst Alexander Shkolnyi said, according to Yedinstvo.
