Pakistani army chief visits North, South Waziristan

RAWALPINDI -- Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif visited North and South Waziristan Agencies, reiterating his commitment to keep troops in Waziristan until they achieve their targets, media reported June 14.

Raheel spent day with security forces and tribesmen in the area and reviewed progress on the on-going Zarb-e-Azb counter-insurgency operation and the repatriation of Temporarily Displaced People, SAMAA reported. The army launched Operatioin Zarb-e-Azb in June 2014 in North Waziristan.

Nationwide combing and intelligence-based operations will continue, Raheel said according to an Inter-Services Public Relations statement, adding that terrorists will not be given a chance to strengthen again in the tribal region.

Raheel also inaugurated the Miranshah-Razmak Makin two-way road and a 100-bed hospital in South Waziristan, Dunya News reported.
