Kyrgyz discuss results of joint border security operations

BISHKEK -- The Kyrgyz State Border Service (GPS) July 19 reviewed the results of joint border security operations that the law enforcement and security agencies of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan recently conducted, the GPS press office said in a July 21 statement.

The three border forces jointly conducted Operation Chanub 2016, which ran from June 6 to 29. Its purposes included breaking up trans-national crime on the three countries' borders.

Kyrgyz authorities detained 15 suspected extremists during the operation as well as 53 fugitives suspected of various other crimes. They also seized more than 30kg of drugs and destroyed 30 tonnes of hemp.
