By Asker Sultanov

BISHKEK -- The Kyrgyz State National Security Committee (GKNB) in July prevented two residents of Batken Province from going to Syria to join the militancy there, the GKNB press office said in a statement August 9.

The suspected militants, J. M. and E. M., both born in 1992, were arrested at an undisclosed location and are now in jail awaiting further questioning, the GKNB said. Authorities have opened a case against them in connection with charges of mercenarism.
