Tajik border guards kill 2 Afghan smugglers

Staff Report

DUSHANBE -- Tajik border guards early August 21 killed two Afghan smugglers and seized weapons after a shoot-out, CA-News.org reported August 22, quoting Tajik Border Troops spokesman Mukhammad Ulugkhojayev.

The gun battle took place in Khamadoni (Hamadoni) District, Khatlon Province, Ulogkhojayev said, adding that the border troops confronted eight or nine traffickers trying to breach the border. The surviving Afghans fled back to Afghanistan. The Tajiks found a grenade, a Kalashnikov and six magazines for the Kalashnikov.

The dead Afghans turned out to be Taliban members, Ulogkhojayev added.
