Tajik border guards go on combat readiness

Staff Report

DUSHANBE -- Tajik border guards have assumed a state of combat readiness in reaction to intensified fighting in neighbouring Kunduz Province, Afghanistan, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Tajik service reported October 3, quoting the Tajik Border Troops.

Although the latest round of fighting in Kunduz has not led to illegal crossings of the Tajik border or Afghan shells landing in Tajik territory, the Tajik government has reinforced its border guard units facing Kunduz Province and its second line of defence, which consists of army units, Border Troops spokesman Mukhammad Ulogokhojayev told RFE/RL.
