Kazakh lower chamber approves bill on terrorism

ASTANA -- The lower chamber of Kazakhstan's parliament October 5 approved the first reading of a bill on extremism and terrorism, Fergana News reported. Bills require three readings and approval by the upper chamber and president before becoming law.

The bill calls for longer prison sentences for defendants convicted of extremism, terrorism, and attempts to overthrow the government.
