Staff Report

Aktobe Province -- Religious Affairs and Civil Society Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev visited Aktobe Province where he spoke with students and the clergy October 23, informburo.kz reported.

During a meeting with NGO representatives, Yermekbayev stressed the role of the "third sector" in resolving social issues, and urged them actively work to prevent religious extremism and design projects to resolve important issues that specific social groups face.

"As a result of the visit, we proposed continuing local, systematic efforts to pass a package of measures to improve rehabilitation programmes, approve a separate regional programme to de-radicalise and rehabilitate followers of radical movements and their family members, and find ways to recruit qualified theologians in mosques," the Prime Minister's site reported.
