BISHKEK -- Leaders of the Kyrgyz State Border Service (GPS) recently convened in Bishkek to discuss their force's achievements in the first nine months of 2016, the GPS press office said in an October 31 statement.

In that period, GPS troops seized 12 firearms, 4 artillery shells and 235 rounds of ammunition, the GPS said.

The main task of the GPS now is to "unmask the destructive elements trying to break into our territory to conduct extremist activity", GPS Chairman Abdikarim Alimbayev said at the session of GPS leaders.

The GPS has increased the number of border check-points to prevent terrorists from entering Kyrgyzstan, he added.
