Staff Report

ASTANA -- Forty Kazakhstani police officers and security personnel October 31-November 2 in Astana and November 3-5 in Almaty are attending courses on managing security at public assemblies, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement.

The OSCE and the Kazakhstani Interior Ministry organised the events, with support from the German and Dutch governments.

The attendees included Astana police, Almaty police and security personnel for Expo 2017, a world fair that is scheduled to begin in Astana next June. Almaty police will be helping guard the 28th Universade World Winter Games, which is scheduled for next January 29-February 8. Both events are expected to attract millions of guests.

Dutch National Police Academy instructors are teaching the courses, which include "ensuring security at terrorism-vulnerable sites".
