ASHGABAT -- Turkmenistan presently has 71.2 billion tonnes of potential hydro-carbon reserves, Turkmen media reported Wednesday (December 14), quoting remarks by the chairman of state-owned Turkmengaz at the 21st "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" conference in Ashgabat.
By some estimates, Turkmenistan has the fourth largest natural-gas reserves in the world.
The country plans to extract 83.8 billion cubic metres of gas this year, Turkmengaz Chairman Ashirguly Begliyev said at the conference. It is planning to extract 230 billion cubic metres of gas in 2030, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Turkmen service reported Tuesday (December 13).
