Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan agree to triple trade in 2 years

SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan -- Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan recently agreed to triple their trade in the next two years, Fergana News reported Monday (December 26), referecing Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev's December 24 working visit to Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Atambayev and Uzbekistani counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev conferred on issues of mutual interest, including trade. In the first nine months of 2016, the countries' trade equalled US $140.3 million (451.4 billion UZS or 9.7 billion KGS), according to Tazabek.kg.

The two presidents during their summit considered that level unbefitting their trade potential and jointly decided to push that trade to US $500 million (1.6 trillion UZS or 34.7 billion KGS) per year within two years, according to Fergana News.
