Kazakh court convicts ISIL supporters

SHYMKENT, Kazakhstan -- A court in Shymkent recently convicted three residents of Karaganda Province of terrorist activity and of preparations for armed robbery, the South Kazakhstan Provincial Court press office said in a statement Tuesday (December 27).

The court found that the three men maintained ties to individuals affiliated with the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) and were planning to carry out its instructions to rob a Shymkent businessman.

Their sentences ranged from four to nine years in prison.
