By Asker Sultanov/AFP

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev declared Tuesday (January 17) a national day of mourning for the victims of a plane crash outside Bishkek Monday (January 16), CA-News.org reported.

A Turkish Airlines cargo jet crashed into Dacha-Suu village, approximately 2km west of Manas International Airport. The plane was en route from Hong Kong to Istanbul.

Authorities blamed pilot error, saying the plane was trying to land under foggy conditions at Manas, according to AFP.

Authorities had identified 37 bodies by Tuesday (January 17) but added that the death toll could rise, AFP reported.

Thirteen people remain hospitalised.
