ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan -- Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov disciplined more than 20 district governors and their deputies for poor performance in 2016, the Turkmenistan: Golden Age TV channel reported Sunday (January 15).
Throughout the year, officials were fired or reprimanded for various failings, including poor work, inability to manage responsibilities, or failure to deliver targeted levels of cotton or wheat, Berdymukhamedov said at a January 13 cabinet session.
The country harvested 1.6 million tonnes of wheat and almost 1.1 million tonnes of cotton in 2016, according to Turkmen media.
