ASTANA -- Kazakhstani National Security Committee (KNB) personnel Wednesday (March 1) detained a man accused of trying to form a Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) cell in Astana, the KNB said in a statement.
The man was identified only as an Astana resident with the initials A. K.
In February, authorities arrested A. K.'s suspected accomplice, a man identified only as M. E., in Almaty. He is accused of trying to circulate pro-HT leaflets there.
A court prohibited HT from operating in Kazakhstan in 2005.
