Staff Report

ASTANA -- A proposed constitutional amendment to deprive two classes of offenders of their citizenship passed a second reading in parliament Monday (March 6), Tengri News reported Monday (March 6).

Bills require three readings before they become law.

Senator Ansar Musakhanov proposed the revision, which fellow senator Georgii Kim backed, according to a March 3 Tengri News report.

Under their proposal, authorities would be empowered to take away citizenship from terrorists and from those who inflict "other grave damage to the vital interests of the republic".
