Nazarbayev confers with religion minister

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev heard a report on the state of religious matters in the country from Religious Affairs and Civil Society Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev, Nazarbayev's press office said in a statement Monday (March 6).

Yermekbayev described the situation as stable and told Nazarbayev of his ministry's work to create a model for co-operation between the state and religious groups that preserves inter-faith and inter-ethnic peace.

Nazarbayev urged Yermekbayev to continue dealing with extremism and to review relevant legislation.

"It's essential to continue working with religious communities, the NGO sector and youth organisations," Nazarbayev told Yermekbayev.
