Tajik ISIL propagandist sentenced to 10 years

QURGHONTEPPA, Tajikistan -- A Khatlon Province court sentenced a 26-year-old Qurghonteppa man to 10 years in prison for online propaganda and recruitment for the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Tajik service reported Tuesday (March 7).

The defendant, identified only as O. K., made contact with ISIL while living in Moscow. He was arrested on his return to Tajikistan in late 2016.

O. K. posted more than 20 ISIL videos on his social-networking page and persuaded several other Tajiks to join ISIL, the court found.
