ASTANA -- Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Wednesday (March 22) arrived in Astana for talks on the invitation of his Kazakhstani counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev, according to Mirziyoyev's press office.
Mirziyoyev and Nazarbayev intend to discuss political and economic aspects of their countries' relationship, as well as urgent regional and international issues.
Mirziyoyev plans to help conduct an Astana exhibition of Uzbekistani industry and an Uzbekistani-Kazakhstani business forum.
The two leaders are expected to sign a number of commercial and governmental agreements. Mirziyoyev's visit ends Thursday (March 23).
With the 'Islamic State' on the verge of defeat, Kazakhstanis who joined the group are likely to begin returning home, where they will face anti-terrorism measures.
Popular support in Central Asia for Islamist insurgencies in the Middle East and beyond is waning.
