Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan discuss border demarcation

Staff Report

NAMANGAN, Uzbekistan -- Uzbekistani and Kyrgyz government delegations April 10-17 in Namangan, Uzbekistan, conducted more talks on border demarcation, the Kyrgyz government press office said in a statement Monday (April 24).

The governments have discussed their shared border for years. Disputes date back to Soviet times, but they have made substantial progress in delineating the border.

During the April 10-17 talks, the delegations conducted a field trip and topographic work on contested parts of the border between Namangan and Fergana provinces (Uzbekistan) and Batken and Jalal-Abad provinces (Kyrgyzstan).
