Kazakhstan celebrates 25-year anniversary of armed forces

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Astana Sunday (May 7) hosted the largest military parade in Kazakhstan's history, said President Nursultan Nazarbayev's press office in a statement that day.

The parade was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the formation of the country's armed forces.

More than 5,000 troops marched. The parade included about 300 military vehicles.

Preserving the country's security is the responsibility of "all citizens", not just of the military, Nazarbayev told the crowd. "Peace, harmony and unity" will be the country's main legacy to the next generation, he said.
