ASTANA -- The last stage of ramping up security at Kazakhstani train stations will take effect June 1, Kazinform reported Wednesday (May 17), quoting Investments and Development Ministry spokesman Murat Jumanbai.
Baggage searches began at Almaty's two train stations February 1 and spread to the Astana main station April 1. On June 1, 13 more train stations nationwide will institute baggage searches.
The searches are random during Code Yellow (moderate threat) days but become universal during Code Orange and Code Red days.
The Taliban have been using advanced weapons available only to the Russian military, according to a security source in western Afghanistan.
