TASHKENT -- Uzbekistani officials have begun the work of creating a Centre for Islamic Culture of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in Tashkent in June, according to his press office.
Mirziyoyev described the coming centre as an institution that will gather knowledge about Islamic thinkers, scholars, poets and other figures who made priceless contributions to world culture. The institution will enable research into the Uzbekistani people's rich spiritual heritage, he said.
Mirziyoyev has announced various political and social reforms since taking office last year. No dates for the start of construction or completion of the centre were reported.
