Kazakhstan creates foundation to support clergy

ASTANA -- Kazakhstan has created a charitable foundation, Uakyp, on orders of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Religious Affairs and Civil Society Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev said during a cabinet session, according to a Tuesday (July 11) statement by Yermekbayev's ministry.

The charity is meant to address various needs, including helping clergy perform their jobs better and supporting the work of religious institutions.

Kairat Aitbayev is the president of the new charity. It also has an oversight council meant to ensure transparency.
