DUSHANBE -- A Dushanbe court sentenced an "Islamic State" (IS) recruiter to 16 years in prison, Avesta.tj reported Thursday (July 13), quoting the Tajik General Prosecutor's Office.

Mirsaid Mirzoyev joined IS in 2013 while working abroad, according to the General Prosecutor's Office. He urged four other Tajiks to go to Syria, though it was not reported whether they actually went.

In September 2015, Mirzoyev flew to Istanbul, where other IS members taught him necessary skills for recruiting new members in Tajikistan. He flew back to Tajikistan one month later to conduct such recruiting.

The date of his arrest was not reported.
