DUSHANBE -- Tajiks who came back from Syria after fighting for the "Islamic State" (IS) are struggling to readjust to regular life, with various degrees of success, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Sunday (August 6).

Tajikistan has taken a case-by-case approach to returning militants, allowing those who surrendered and came back voluntarily to re-enter civilian life, while imprisoning those it considers unrepentant extremists.

Out of 1,141 known Tajiks who have gone to Syria and Iraq since the wars broke out, about 100 have come back and almost 300 have been killed, according to the Tajik Interior Ministry (MVD).
