KARAGANDA, Kazakhstan -- Karaganda officials Saturday (August 26) unveiled a monument to Soviet rock star Viktor Tsoi, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Monday (August 28).
Tsoi was killed in a car accident outside St. Petersburg in August 1990.
Tsoi was popular throughout the Soviet Union. His father, Robert, a native of Kazakhstan, attended the unveiling and expressed his gratitude.
Almaty officials plan to unveil their own city's monument to Tsoi this autumn.
