BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz police and intelligence agencies broke up a plot to carry out a terrorism attack during the presidential election (October 15), the Interior Ministry (MVD) said in a Friday (September 22) statement.

Kyrgyz forces arrested three members of "banned extremist groups" in Tokmak District, Chui Province, said the MVD, adding that the forces found weapons, extremist literature and improvised-explosive-device (IED) components.

The suspects -- two men and a woman identified only by initials and year of birth -- were planning "a terrorist act", said the MVD.
