DUSHANBE -- A Swiss government contribution has enabled Tajikistan to become the latest country to join the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's (EBRD) Women in Business (WIB) programme, the EBRD said in a Tuesday (September 26) statement.
WIB "promotes women's entrepreneurship through access to finance and know-how in order to stimulate business growth", according to the EBRD.
A launch event in Dushanbe Monday (September 25) attracted businesswomen from throughout Tajikistan, where 42% of women are self-employed.
As part of WIB, the EBRD intends to provide as much as $8 million (70.4 million TJS) to partner financial institutions, meant for loans to businesswomen.
