BATKEN, Kyrgyzstan -- Joint Kyrgyz-Uzbekistani enterprises will be opening in Batken Province after the re-opening of a border crossing between the Kyrgyz province and Fergana Province, Uzbekistan, said Batken Governor Abish Kalmurzayev, according to a Tuesday (October 3) report by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Kyrgyz service.

Batken Province officials are selecting locations for potential joint enterprises, he said, adding that Uzbekistan is seeking to buy Kyrgyz rice, coal, apricots and sand, while Kyrgyzstan is considering buying Uzbekistani fabrics and clothing.

On Monday (October 2), authorities re-opened a border crossing between Kadamjai, Kyrgyzstan, and Vuadil, Uzbekistan, as the governors of Batken and Fergana provinces attended.

Uzbekistan closed most crossings on the Kyrgyz border after unrest in Kyrgyzstan in 2010. Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has worked to repair relations with his country's neighbours since taking office last year.
