BISHKEK -- Authorities in Kazakhstan have stepped up security along the border with Kyrgyzstan ahead of the Kyrgyz presidential election scheduled for October 15.

Kazakh authorities began tightening security at border checkpoints on Tuesday, Kyrgyzstan's State Border Service told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Wednesday (October 11).

Those waiting to cross the border began posting photos and videos of long lines onto social media later that night, reported 24.kg Wednesday.

Kazakh officials have not yet made any official comment on the situation, noted RFE/RL.
