WASHINGTON -- The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) honoured Kazakhstani journalist Saniya Toiken with the 2017 Courage in Journalism Award, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Wednesday (October 25).
The award, which is in its 28th year, recognises female journalists for "extraordinary bravery" and "commitment to the truth", according to RFE/RL.
Toiken accepted the award in Washington Monday (October 23). She works for RFE/RL's Kazakh Service and has covered western Kazakhstani social and political news for more than 20 years.
The Taliban have been using advanced weapons available only to the Russian military, according to a security source in western Afghanistan.
Popular support in Central Asia for Islamist insurgencies in the Middle East and beyond is waning.
