TASHKENT -- The Uzbekistani government and the UN say they have made progress in protecting the country's most vulnerable populations, UzDaily.com reported Tuesday (December 19).

The UN and the Uzbekistani government formed a result group in 2016 to jointly protect vulnerable residents. The group met Tuesday to review the progress of implementation of their work plan for 2016-2017 and consider possible areas of collaboration for 2018-2020.

Targeted groups include the disabled community, women and children in difficult situations, the poor and the elderly. The 2018-2010 action plan is meant to improve such groups' living conditions.

"We would like to foster greater coherence among partners and dialogue to further support the [Uzbekistani] government's policies and initiatives in social protection," said Sasha Graumann, UNCIEF representative in Uzbekistan and co-chair of the result group. "This platform also provides opportunities for better donor co-ordination."
