Kyrgyz families to receive childbirth funds from government

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz families will receive a one-time allowance from the government for having a child starting this year, 24.kg reported Thursday (January 4).

Starting January 1 (Monday), families will receive 4,000 KGS ($58) for the birth of a child. Families located in high-mountain areas will receive 6,000 KGS ($87).

Parents will need to provide proof of birth and parentage, according to the new law.

On New Year's Eve, 311 babies were born nationwide, according to the government.
