Nazarbayev, US ambassador discuss strategic partnership

ASTANA -- Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev Tuesday (January 9) conferred with US Ambassador to Kazakhstan George Krol on Kazakhstani-US ties ahead of Nazarbayev's upcoming official visit to the United States, reported Kazinform.

"For 26 years, we have built friendly relations between our countries, [and] have signed over 70 inter-state, inter-governmental and inter-agency agreements," Nazarbayev said, according to his press office.

Nazarbayev stressed the importance of the two nations' strategic partnership, which includes countering terrorism, strengthening nuclear non-proliferation and furthering economic co-operation.

He highlighted Krol's role in developing relations between the two countries.

Krol thanked the president for underlining his diplomatic efforts and said he was confident that Nazarbayev's upcoming visit to the US will bolster co-operation.
