SUGHD PROVINCE, Tajikistan -- Tajik authorities were able to prevent three terrorist attacks against law enforcement personnel last year in Sughd Province, reported AsiaPlus.tj, citing an Interior Ministry (MVD) official.
Qudratullo Nazarzoda, police chief of Sughd Province, made his remarks Friday (February 2) to reporters.
In one incident, suspects "guided from abroad were attempting to commit a terrorist act in the building of the district prosecutor's office" of Jabbor Rasulov District, Nazarzoda said. "One of the members of this group was detained in the province, while four others were detained in a foreign country."
In another case, criminals planned to attack law enforcement personnel in Istaravshan District, according to Nazarzoda.
"Our officers detained the criminals and confiscated weapons from them," he said.
The MVD detained two residents of Isfara who "were going to kill police officers" in a third case.
Sughd Province police have a wanted list of 630 suspected terrorist and extremist offenders, he said, according to AsiaPlus.tj.
The project's goal is to provide surplus hydro-electric power from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan during the summer months.
