DUSHANBE -- Tajik customs personnel seized heroin from Afghanistan at the Lower Panj border check-point in Khatlon Province, said the Tajik Customs Service in a statement earlier this week.

The officers searched a truck at the crossing and found a suitcase containing almost 2kg of heroin. They arrested the driver and his passenger, both Tajik men.

The men agreed in Afghanistan to transport the heroin to waiting individuals in Dushanbe, according to investigators in the March 27 statement. An Afghan man allegedly handed the suitcase to them at Sherkhon-Bandar, the Afghan side of the same check-point.

Following up on the arrests in Lower Panj, police in Dushanbe arrested two Afghan men who now face charges of drug trafficking.
