DUSHANBE -- Tajik government and civil society representatives met with Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) officials Wednesday (April 11) in Dushanbe to discuss reinforcing co-operation, said the OSCE in a statement.

The meeting was the first "under the new format 'OSCE – Tajikistan Partnership Platform'", according to the OSCE, with another one planned for next year.

Conferees discussed co-operation in 2017 and a new vision for 2019.

"We will strive to ensure that our efforts respond to the needs of the host country and are in line with the OSCE principles and commitments," Ambassador Tuula Yrjölä, the head of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, said at the meeting.

"In addition to our comprehensive work in the politico-military and human dimensions, we are looking forward to working together with the government and civil society of Tajikistan to strengthen our support in the economic and environmental dimension," she said.

Ambassador Marcel Pesko, director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre in Vienna, highlighted Tajikistan's promotion of regional security and stability.

"We particularly appreciate Tajikistan's support in OSCE engagement with Afghanistan," he said at the meeting.

Tajikistan "should comprehensively co-operate with all international and regional organisations, including the OSCE, for the benefit of our country", said Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister Ismatullo Nasredin.
