ASTANA -- International donors and Kazakhstan signed an agreement Wednesday (June 6) to build a 40MW solar plant in Karaganda Province, Kazinform reported.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a meeting in Astana of Kazakhstan's Foreign Investors' Council.

Under the deal, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will lend up to $22 million (7.3 billion KZT) for the project, the Green Technologies Fund up to $5.8 million (1.9 billion KZT) and the Green Climate Fund up to $4.2 million (1.3 billion KZT).

This is the nation's sixth project aimed at developing alternative energy sources, according to the Ministry of Energy.

Wind farms and solar plants across the country will have a capacity of 200MW once the projects are completed, according to the ministry.
