DUSHANBE -- Tajik border guards and Afghan drug traffickers clashed three separate times Monday, Asia-Plus reported Tuesday (June 12), citing a Tajik border official.

Two of the clashes took place in the jurisdiction of the Hamadoni border outpost, according to Tajik Border Troops spokesman Maj. Mukhammad Ulugkhojayev.

The fleeing Afghans abandoned 15kg of hashish and 1kg of opium on the battlefield in the first shootout and 7kg of hashish and 4kg of opium in the second, he said.

The third clash of the day, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Panj border outpost, ended with the fleeing Afghans abandoning 35kg of hashish in Tajikistan.

No Tajik troops were wounded in the fighting, he said. He did not discuss casualties among the smugglers.
