BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz police detained a 58-year-old Chui Province woman on suspicion of fraud, AKIpress reported Thursday (June 14), citing the Interior Ministry. The location of the arrest was not reported.

The suspect was accused of introducing herself as a member of parliament or some other high-ranking officials. She would then allegedly offer to help Kyrgyz citizens "solve" their problems for money.

She often simulated phone calls with "top officials" to deceive her targets, say police.

In one case in the fall of 2014, she allegedly swindled an Osh woman out of $4,500 (307,680 KGS) and 6,900 KGS ($101) by pretending to work in Osh city hall.

Police are looking for other possible offences by the suspect.
