DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry sent an official note to its Russian counterpart Wednesday (July 25) demanding "severe punishment" for the alleged killer of a five-year-old Tajik girl in Moscow earlier this week, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

Five-year-old Huvaido Tillozoda, the daughter of labour migrants from Tajikistan, went missing Sunday (July 22). She was found raped and stabbed to death in Serpukhov, south of Moscow.

Her father brought her body to Tajikistan for burial Wednesday.

"The Tajik side calls on the Russian Federation...to thoroughly investigate this brutal crime against a child and demands severe punishment for the criminal," said the statement from the Tajik Foreign Ministry.

A suspect, a 27-year-old man who lives in the same building as the victims's family, has already been detained, the regional branch of the Russian Investigative Committee said Monday (July 23).

Another neighbour reported the man to police in 2017 for allegedly trying to molest her daughter and another girl, said residents.

The Moscow Province police announced Tuesday (July 24) that they have begun an internal investigation of their handling of the 2017 complaint.
