Kazakh troops to head to US for Exercise Steppe Eagle

ASTANA -- The Kazakh army's KAZBAT peace-keeping battalion will be in the United States for the Steppe Eagle-2018 exercises, according to a Tuesday (August 7) statement by the Kazakh Defence Ministry.

The exercises begin soon at McCrady Army National Guard Training Centre in South Carolina and will end August 23.

Troops from Kazakhstan, the United States, Great Britain, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be participating. The main purpose of Steppe Eagle is to train the forces to conduct joint peace-keeping missions in accordance with United Nations standards.

Steppe Eagle has taken place annually since 2003. Since 2012, the exercises has been conducted as part of NATO's Partnership for Peace.

Steppe Eagle drills have been held in Kazakhstan every year except 2014 and 2018.
