BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz authorities are suggesting setting aside two days a year for local elections nationwide, 24.kg reported Monday (August 13), quoting Nurjan Shaildabekova, chairwoman of the country's Central Election Commission (TsIK).

Shaildabekova raised the idea at the 7th session of the National Council for Sustainable Development, which took place Monday.

Holding local elections twice a year on the same day nationwide will save money, she said, without specifying when the reform would take effect.

Another priority is adding more than 800,000 Kyrgyz adults to the country's voter rolls, which presently have more 3 million voters listed. The others have not submitted their biometric data yet, she said.
