US religious freedom ambassador to confer with Uzbek leaders

WASHINGTON, DC -- Ambassador Sam Brownback, the US envoy for international religious freedom, is set to visit Uzbekistan as part of a three-country tour, the US State Department said in a Monday (September 10) statement.

Brownback is expected to visit Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Poland for meetings on protecting the rights of religious and ethnic groups. His itinerary dates were not disclosed.

In Uzbekistan, Brownback is set to hold meetings with Uzbek leaders to discuss the country's "recent positive steps on religious freedom policies and encourage legislative reforms", said the State Department.
