Funds seized in corruption cases fill Kyrgyz government's coffers

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's corruption compensation fund now holds at almost 395.6 million KGS ($5.6 million) after opening July 3, 24.kg reported Thursday (September 13) citing the Ministry of Finance.

The account holds funds seized in corruption cases, as well as compensation for damage to the state caused by economic crimes and by abuse of office.

Various agencies have contributed substantial sums to the account.

The State Service for Combatting Economic Crimes transferred the largest amount, 161.6 million KGS ($2.3 million) to the fund, according to the ministry.

The State Committee for National Security (GKNB), Prosecutor General's Office and Interior Ministry (MVD) also sent confiscated funds to the account.
