BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) detained a 21-year-old Kyrgyz citizen believed to be a member of an international terrorist organisation, 24.kg reported Monday (September 17). The GKNB did not disclose his alleged organisation.
Prior to his arrest in Kyrgyzstan, the suspect had been residing in an unspecified former Soviet republic for the past several years. He intended to join insurgents in Syria, according to the GKNB.
The committee said it had initiated a criminal case against the suspect for taking part in an armed conflict abroad or receiving terrorist and extremist training, as well as for activities aimed at inciting hatred.
